Sticks and stones

Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words, they also hurt me
Sticks and stones break only skin
While words are ghosts that haunt me

Pain from words has left a scar
On my mind and heart that’s tender
Cuts and bruises now have healed
But it’s words that I remember

  1. I love the way you took that old saying and worked with it in this poem. the message is so true. words sometimes leave the deepest scars, and people don’t want to take that responsibility. beautiful work.

  2. i believe that words can be more destructive than anything –

“There is nothing to prove – only to share” – Alvin Ailey

“Courage is being scared to death…… and saddling up anyway” – John Wayne

“Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it” – David Foster Wallace
